Amarapura lies on the west bank of the Ayerwaddy River. The name means the city of immortality. Former capital of Myanmar and the location of the first British Embassy in Myanmar. Famous for its picturesque monuments like the U Bein Bridge (the oldest and longest teak wood bridge in the world) and the Mahagandayon Monastery, and silk weaving factories.
